| Fertility NEWS LETTER Ideal fertility : ICSI / IVF & Genetic Center India Dear CollegesHello
Hope holy was full of joy. We are conducting one CME workshop on ovulation induction and sperm preparation on 3rd April 2005. Our next summer course on biotechnology will be starting from 17th may to 27th may 2005.In this issue we are discussing one small topic of premature ovarian failure ,it really baffles sometimes and the lady goes into great dilemma regarding the further treatment. With best regards, Sincerely yours,Dr. D’Pankar Banerji
1.Premature Ovarian Failure ( POF )Diagnostic Criteria
Amenorrhea lasting more than 4 monthsAge less than 40 yrs, andSerum Follicular stimulating hormone > 40 mIU/ml on two occasion But there are reports that ,females with secondary amenorrhea may have intermittent ovarian function in 24% cases and pregnancy in 8% of cases.Ovarian follicle depletionEtiology of POF
Deficient initial follicle numberOvarian follicular dysfunctionAccelerated follicular atresia
 Autoimmunity
 Enzyme deficiencyAutoimmunity
 Lymphocytic oophoritis
 Signal defects
 Gene mutation
 Iatrogenic
 Idiopathic
Several autoimmune disorders have been associated with POF ;most common is hypothyroidism with incidence of 27 % ,followed by diabetes mellitus (2.5 % ) and Addison’s disease   ( 2.5 % )
Karyotype should be done in all cases if there is POF before 30 yrs. Y chromosome in any cell line necessitated gonadectomy to prevent gonadoblastoma 2. Summer course for biotechnology students 6th batchDAY 1Date : 17-27th May. 2005
